In this module terminology related to the human gait cycle is presented. We cover the center of mass and how it moves during the gait cycle, particularly as it contributes to our understanding of the emerging paradigm of gait (Dr. Stephen Levin) as an interaction between us and the earth. New concepts such as “bones as springs” and closed kinematic chains are introduced, both of which make human gait energy efficient. Movement explorations include the felt sense of the gait cycle, movement of the center of mass, spirals, and springs.
