All of the terms (neuroception, nociception, nocebo) are defined, and explored within the context of our work. Neuroception is always happening whether or not we are aware of the process, as we evaluate for safety in the environment. As practitioners we can embody characteristics that enhance neuroception. By understanding pain, and the role of the brain, we begin to focus less on specific tissues. Our word choice is an important consideration as we want to avoid contributing to the pain experience of clients (nocebo). The concept of neural signature is introduced.
