The subtitle of this module is Misconceptions, Realities, and Musings. There is a brief review of the current paradigm as well as an introduction to the emerging paradigm that is more in line with biotensegrity. Mark Comerford’s (movement scientist, author, and excellent teacher) functional classification of muscles is introduced. Also covered is the effect of pain on stabilizers and mobilizer muscles, current information on psoas and upper trapezius (why upper trapezius is almost never tight but feels tight and should not be stretched), muscle activation and its effect on myofascia, and applied biotensegrity as related to muscles (muscles as soft matter and turnbuckles; closed kinematic chains).
