Yesterday I participated in a webinar related to pain and was delighted to hear the speaker introduce the concept of pleasure snacks.
When I think of snacks, I think of something small that is eaten between meals. For me it needs to be easy, convenient and nutritious. My go to is a handful of nuts. No preparation needed, easy to grab, not messy to eat, and full of nutrients that my body needs. And if I snack on a pecan dipped in Grand Marnier which is then dipped in dark chocolate, the snack becomes even more pleasurable.
I’ve considered Mentastics as movement snacks, small interludes in the day to move in a different way … easy, convenient, and nutritious. Easy because you don’t need special equipment, and convenient because you don’t have to go anywhere special to do them. And they are nutritious for so many of our bodily systems.
Today I’m considering Mentastics as Pleasure Snacks like the fancy nut I mentioned. Touch and movements that are pleasurable have many health benefits as we discovered in the Tragerology module on Pleasure in December 2020, and Touch inOctober 2021. My question for any Mentastics movement in order to fit this particular category of movement snack is “what would be more pleasurable?” Engaging my unconscious mind with a question will change the quality of my self-touch and modulate my movements for more pleasure.
After snacking I savor the satiety, the after taste of whatever I’ve eaten. In the same way I pause after a Pleasure Snack and savor it for recall later.
How often do you incorporate Pleasure Snacks in your day?
Would you feel comfortable introducing your clients to Mentastics movements as Pleasure Snacks?
I love this! And what a lovely idea to pass on to clients. Also, since I have been having a problem with too much food grazing in the last few months, I am going to double down here–substituting these marvelous pleasure snacks for what has lately become a habit of grabbing a quick bite of unneeded food.
Thanks, Eileen!
Excellent idea Myrna!
